Betty Bowl Bonnets are an adorable way to put that last serving of holiday food in the fridge until midnight snack time, or perhaps to take a plate of cookies to your eco-conscious friends! Bowl Bonnets are much nicer than plastic wrap, and they’re fast and easy to sew up. In no time at all, you can whip up enough Bonnets to cover cookie plates for the whole neighborhood, or keep them yourself and never buy plastic wrap again!
We will make one Bonnet in class, but your materials will be enough for 1 plate (11” diameter) and 2 bowl (7” diameter) bonnets. Pattern included in class fee.
- ½ yard fabric (prewashed to remove sizing)
- 1 yard X 17” Slicker Iron-on Glossy Vinyl
- 2 yards Fold-Over elastic (⅝” or ¾” wide)
- thread to match elastic
- sharp or universal sewing machine needles 80/12
- pencil; small ruler; seam ripper; wonder clips; pins; scissors.
Bring the plate/dish you want the Bonnet to fit, we will use it to size the Bonnet.
You and your sewing machine need to have a good working relationship for class. If your machine is sulking, please make a point of spending some quality time together to work it out! If your relationship problems are severe, perhaps a visit to “Dr. Izzy” here in the repair shop will help. You don’t really want to spend your whole class in a tiff with your machine!
